A case study on light and its importance for the personification of an object, to give it values and emotional attributes specifically on product visualization for marketing purposes.

During a conversation with a coworker, I was advocating for light in cinematography as the means to achieve sellability on a product by giving it beauty and emotion.

After all, those attributes come from the light first and then from everything else (obviously without diminishing the many components of video, composition, contrast, color, framing, etc).

This coworker asked me if I could light a brick and tell an abstract emotional story that would give him the sensation that a brick was a distinct object and that it had/held value, and/or could be worth money.

I said yes and took that challenge, out came this quick production video content piece, where I set out to achieve giving those values (beauty, strength, desire) to this object and thus visually making it sellable.

My concept was using the object in itself and I quickly tried to emulate a feeling of recall of the glory of the roman empire and the object's origin, this gave it history, literally actually.

So we have the construction and reveal of the product, the origin in clay and ash, the civilization gone, and a sort of packshot that gives continuity to those historical properties. Even if you don't see the roman empire you feel the importance of the object as a concept of construction.

A case study on light and its importance for the personification of an object, to give it values and emotional attributes specifically on product visualization for marketing purposes.
